Spring Seed McLaren Vale Moscato ‘Sweet Pea’ 750ml

Spring Seed Moscato ‘Sweet Pea’ is made using Muscat à Petit Grains. This red grape is common throughout central and Eastern Europe, used predominantly to make either sweet or dry white wines. At Spring Seed, this grape is used to make the ever so slightly pink and ‘frizzante’ Moscato wine. The grapes are picked and allowed to spend a small amount of time ‘on skins’ to get the lovely pink colour. Then the wine is made like a white wine: pressed off skins and fermented. The wine is chilled to stop the fermentation process, then bottled with a little bit of fizz.

Tasting Note

The makers of ‘Sweet Pea’ describe it as an ideal breakfast wine. This Moscato has a ‘gorgeous grapey nose of Turkish Delight, a hint of cinnamon and a little bubble gum’. ‘Sweet Pea’ is obviously a sweet wine (due to the residual sugar that remains after the fermentation has stopped) but it finishes with a wonderful savoury character. It is perfect with scrambled or poached eggs and smoked salmon, but also works well with strawberry, raspberry or cherry based desserts.

And when making cocktails,  simply add some gin to ‘Sweet Pea’, plenty of ice, fresh lime, top with soda water! Give it a go!
