Spring Seed McLaren Vale Shiraz ‘Scarlet Runner’ 

 

Spring Seed Wines are made from grapples lovingly grown in the Bosworth family’s organic vineyards, located in the premium wine region of McLaren Vale, South Australia. The vineyards were established in the early 1970s by Peter and Anthea Bosworth, and are now owned and run by their son Joch and partner Louise Hemsley-Smith, who began the conversion to organic viticulture in 1995.

‘Scarlet Runner’ is designed to be a fresh style of Shiraz without too much oak influence, so Spring Seed and Co. didn’t go mad with oak. They used a couple of new barrels, but for the most part old oak and stainless steel were used. The Shiraz is bottled roughly 12 months after the grapes have been picked.

Tasting Note:

This is a lovely fresh bright Shiraz, true to region and variety. There are bright red and some dark fruits on the nose, a hint of chocolate and a mere whiff of oak. The tannins in the mouth are smooth and overall this red wine is fresh, juicy and quite delicious.

Try it with a Black Pepper and Red Wine Stew and if you have enough Scarlet Runner, you could use it to make the dish, too!
