Tenuta di Ghizzano

This organic red wine by Tenuta di Ghizzano comes from vineyards in the town of Peccioli, in the Pisa province of Tuscany, Italy.

“This is the wine that “introduces” the estate into wine bars, wine stores and restaurants all over the world. It is made from Sangiovese grapes with a small percentage of Merlot, grown mainly in our “Santa Maria” and “Il Monte” vineyards. The philosophy behind IL GHIZZANO is that of offering consumers a fresh, fruity, easy to drink wine featuring all the sweetness of the local Sangiovese.” - Ginevra Venerosi Pesciolini, producer

'These are the most impressive wines I have ever tasted from Tenuta di Ghizzano. The wines are made in a fairly non-interventionalist style, starting with organically farmed grapes. For the top wines, the grapes are crushed by foot and fermentations are done in open-top wood and cement vats, using only indigenous yeast' - Antonio Galloni

Tasting Note:

70% Sangiovese & 30% Cabernet Sauvignon

Costa Toscana wraps around the palate with gorgeous depth and resonance. There is a lot to like in this Sangiovese / Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend. Dark plum, cherry pit, mint, spice and liquorice blossom as this succulent, expressive wine shows off its personality. Sweet floral and spice notes add finesse on the silky, perfumed finish, creating a very delicious wine.

‘Il Ghizzano is striking: Dark cherries, plums, grilled herbs, dried flowers. Sage and underbrush, all meld together in a powerful, broad-shouldered wine.

It is endowed with gorgeous balance and symmetry. Cabernet Sauvignon gives the bright Sangiovese-inflected aromas and flavours an extra kick of structure.’ 93 Points – Antonio Galloni
